PRTG Network Monitor 26.1.116 Stable Release Overview

Paessler has released PRTG Network Monitor version 26.1.116 to the stable channel, representing the first major stable update of 2026. This release focuses on strengthening platform security, expanding monitoring coverage through new sensors, improving compatibility with third-party systems, and resolving a broad set of stability issues.

The update is designed to support both traditional on-premise monitoring environments and modern, hybrid infrastructures.

New Experimental Sensors

Version 26.1.116 introduces several new experimental sensors. These sensors are fully functional but may still evolve based on feedback and future platform changes.

Proxmox VE Monitoring Sensors

Two new sensors extend native monitoring support for Proxmox VE environments:

  • Proxmox VE Virtual Machine Status Sensor
Provides visibility into the operational state and performance of QEMU virtual machines running on Proxmox VE clusters. Authentication is handled via API tokens configured at the device credential level.

  • Proxmox VE Container Status Sensor
Enables monitoring of LXC containers, offering status and performance insights using the same API-based authentication model.

These additions reduce dependency on generic monitoring methods and improve observability in Proxmox-based virtualisation setups.

Redesigned SSL/TLS Certificate Monitoring

A new SSL/TLS Certificate Sensor replaces the legacy SSL Certificate sensor. It has been rewritten to run on the Multi-Platform Probe, enabling cross-platform certificate monitoring beyond Windows-only probes.

This sensor improves long-term maintainability and aligns certificate monitoring with Paessler’s multi-platform strategy. At this stage, SOCKS proxy support is not included.

Industrial Monitoring: Siemens SIMATIC S7 Sensors

PRTG 26.1.116 expands its industrial monitoring capabilities with two new sensors for Siemens PLC environments:

  • SIMATIC S7-300/400 CPU Restart Overview Sensor
Detects and categorises CPU restarts, helping distinguish between power interruptions, firmware behaviour, and software-triggered restarts.

  • SIMATIC S7-300/400 CPU Status Sensor
Retrieves key operational metrics such as CPU mode, cycle load, and watchdog status using the S7 protocol.

These sensors improve visibility into OT environments where operational continuity and fault diagnosis are critical.

Security Enhancements

This release introduces targeted security-focused improvements:

  • API Key Support for SSO Users
Users authenticated via Single Sign-On can now generate and manage API keys directly within PRTG, enabling secure automation and integration scenarios without relying on local user accounts.

  • Display Name Length Limitation
Display names are now limited to 240 characters to prevent database inefficiencies and edge-case issues caused by excessively long identifiers.

    Sensor Stability and Compatibility Improvements

Several existing sensors have been improved to enhance reliability and compatibility:

    • Veeam Backup Sensors
Issues affecting Veeam Backup Job Status sensors have been resolved, ensuring compatibility with newer Veeam environments, including version 13.

    • HTTP Sensor Availability
Scenarios where certain HTTP sensors were missing from the Add Sensor dialog or stopped functioning after updates have been fixed.

    • HPE Storage Monitoring
The HPE 3PAR Drive Enclosure Sensor has been corrected to work reliably with HPE Primera systems.

      Web Interface Improvements

A known issue affecting public maps has been addressed. Linked objects on public maps now refresh correctly, improving usability for externally shared dashboards and status views.

      API v2 Enhancements

The PRTG API v2 has been extended with a new experimental endpoint that returns a list of sensors eligible for creation under a specific parent object. Each sensor definition includes a flag indicating whether creation prerequisites are met.

This enhancement simplifies automation workflows and improves integration with external orchestration and provisioning tools.

      Summary

PRTG Network Monitor 26.1.116 delivers more than 110 fixes and improvements across sensors, security, API functionality, and user experience. The release strengthens PRTG’s position as a unified monitoring platform for IT, OT, and hybrid infrastructures while continuing the transition toward multi-platform monitoring capabilities.
